Broken stride, broken heart

So... I guess I blogged about getting back into the walking program too soon.

Went to the doctor today. That heel pain?... Yeah... it's plantar fasciitis.

Ice. Exercises. Shoes with orthotics all the time (even in the house!)

Definitely no running.

Cut out the walking routine.

I am thinking of curse words in various languages as I write this....

I'm so very sorry, Sarah. I would encourage you to look at your history though. You've had hills and valleys along the running road - this too is a temporary low. Too much too soon? Possibly. Keep the faith.

Unbelievable! No fair! Hang in there and take Turtle Guy's advice - hang in there, you'll get through this too.

drag, drag, drag....

years ago, when Spencer was just a baby, I had problems with my feet aching. doctor said that I needed to wear shoes 100% of the time, and I have ever since, and it never returned.

thinking of you, and wishing a speedy healing...

Darn. I had such hopes for you.

Hope it's a temporary setback.

PF? Weird. Usually thats when you stand for too long or walk a lot more than normal.

It will go away. Don't stop altogether! Have hope!

You will come through Sarah. I read an interesting story about Lance Armstrong in a May issue of Sports Illustrated. A reporter was visiting Armstrong’s home and noted the beautiful 100 + year old oak tree in the front yard. It was a fascinating contrast; brand new home / solid old tree. Come to find out Lance had the tree uprooted and moved 200 feet closer to the new house…just, because it could be done! S.I. Guy was surprised at this news to which Lance Armstrong simply replied, “Hey, everything is optional”.

I think of you Sarah Elaine when I think of someone who considers every option. Hang on to hope.

Along with your 'inner knowingness', understand that everything in life happens for a reason - call it the 'interconnectedness of the universe'. You don't always know why, but you have to accept it and go with it. PF is an actual diagnosis, not a mystery, and it has a rehab schedule - those are good things. Have patience with it.

Plantar is lingering injury, but not killing as long as it doesn't turn into heal spur. Actually, I am surprised you've got it on walking program. Rest and ice should do the trick in a couple of weeks. Orthotics...may be, since you did get it on an easy routine, something must be wrong with the way you plant your feet.
Knee - I know you have doctors and all, but are you working on your quad/ham ratio? And remember, this can be done without squats if they hurt. The inverted leg press should be done with each leg separate, and depending on where you place your feet (bottom-middle-top of the plate) you can work different muscle groups. Don't think - stronger, think - right ratio.
Honestly, I've gone through 3 plantars without cutting down miles, but you'd say I am an idiot. May be. Honestly, I believe in working through (some)injuries. Soft trails walking - you have any? They shouldn't bother your feet. Tennis ball massage of your feet - after the main pain subsides.
Sorry, I am a walking encyclopidia of running-related injuries...by default. Hope you stay positive. I think you will. You are strong willed and very meticulous.

oh dear! how terrible, and how annoying! what could this MEAN, in a bigger sense?? I feel like cursing myself. I think we need to thumb our collective noses at the powers that be for this particular little development

How could I forget - a cortizon injection, if all fails! It works magic but can only be done twice in lifetime.

Hi Sarah,

Oh, that is too bad I'm sorry to hear that.

Um, have you tried riding a bike? I use to love the freedom of the rode, and the speed is faster than running. And it's low impact to boot.

Unfortunately, a lot of these biomechanical problems are complex and take a bit of sorting out, a lot of time, a lot of patience. As I said before, I am sure you want to reach a ripe old age in a good physical position, so take the time now to minimise long term problems. Good for you for being patient and persevering in the search for answers.

Here's someone walking in those orthotics, with bone spurs all over my feet. I'm sorry, Sarah.

Now your comment makes sense to me. Sorry to hear about your continued troubles. I'll try to stop whining now.
