Anyone else ever done this?

Yesterday I had a cooking frenzy, with a view to having an entire week’s worth of “no brainer”, good “clean” food (balanced, nutritious, low fat proteins and lots of veggies), that I could just heat up and enjoy.

So, I fired up the BBQ and made steaks, lean meat balls, and tandoori chicken. All modesty aside, I make a mean tandoori chicken… and on the BBQ is definitely the best way!

I made a nice potato and spinach curry, with yogurt sauce, too. (Don’t ask for the recipe… There isn’t one!) And I made sure there were lots of fresh veggies in the crisper to steam up and have as sides. Yesterday I made steamed broccoli and asparagus and had that with some tandoori and veg curry for dinner. In fact, I made enough for two portions and then packed the second portion into a Tupperware container and threw it in the fridge for lunch today.

During my workout, lunch crossed my mind…. Mmm… curry and tandoori are (IMHO) always better on the second day. By the time I was done stretching my tummy was gurgling… It was getting close to lunch and I was hungry.

I hoofed it back to the building where I work and before I even bothered to drop my bag off at the office, I stopped by the fridge and got out my lunch… Only to discover… I brought the wrong Tupperware container! Argh!!

Although it crossed my mind to eat the 3 whole chicken breasts that were in there, ultimately I decided that wouldn’t be a good idea… Not balanced… too much protein (even after a workout!) and besides, if I ate them all today, I wouldn’t get to enjoy tandoori for the rest of the week…

Sigh… Checked my wallet. Yup… enough money for lunch. I headed back to the student centre, hoping to find something healthy.

Today’s lunch is still in the fridge and I’m sure it’ll be fine as tomorrow’s lunch. I should just put a big sticker on it that says, “Hey bleary-eyed not-so-morning person! Pick me! I’m your real lunch!”

Hi Sarah...I'm a mess when it comes to prepping for tomorrow's lunch. Victoria is excellent at planning things and taking care of those details.

I'm finally realizing how important it is to have good food to eat.

Sarah, you are way too organized for me. I know I should cook on the weekend to be ready for the week, but it just doesn't happen.

I spent the last two days camping and loaded up the cooler on the fly, so everything was fair game - whenever. As for planned meals... well... it's been more like

"So, what can I create TODAY and do I have to go to the store?"

Planned meals... something to try, but definitely outside of my routine.

One more thought...

I had a friend who used to go to these group cooking marathons - much as you've described, only where 15 or 20 people get together, plan the menu and do a giant cook-off. Everything is bought in bulk, therefore cheaper for each individual.

Oh, I've done that more times than I care to count!

I'm with D. You can gladly come over and cook me up some healthy food for my lunch. I usually eat pretty boring stuff for lunch every day, but I do make it myself.

I can't believe you're doing cooking for yourself! Have to say, when I am alone in the house for a couple of days 9what happens once a year) or even without my husband (what may happen once a month if I am lucky) I don't cook at all. I eat cereal, sandwitches and scraps from left-overs, or whatever, but I don't cook. I don't like this everyday's task that much, especially because i HAVE to do this (you know, mother of the house...damn been conservative!)
