Kicked out of the gym

Yup. You read that right.

My trainer has kicked me out of the gym. At least for a week. He calls it a "Rest Week". (Yeah, right!)

The words "plateau" and "you just need a break" came up during our conversation. If I look back on my training log for the past couple of weeks, I can begin to see telltale signs of the beginnings of being overtrained - a higher-than-usual heart rate, no motivation to work out, trouble sleeping, generally feeling low on energy and a bit cranky. I think the "rest week" is a way of nipping it in the bud before it becomes full-blown burn out.

Well, whatever. I'm to stay the hell away from the gym for a week. Trainer's orders.

Yaaay!!! (Ooops! Did I say that?!)

A little vacation is always good. Cool that your trainer saw it coming and realizes you need a break.

A friend of mine just moved back from Calgary and was working on his Masters of Ed. Maybe you know Larry Vidito? He's originally from Middleton, NS

Welcome to the club taking time off. It's not so bad. I'm enjoying my temporary vacation from running. Thinking about lacing up the shoes is getting more exciting as a result. Besides you have that sweet machine you can take out any unspent energy on.

For a minute I thought you were causing trouble at the gym. I thought I was going to be reading about a side of you that we have not been exposed to yet. Maybe you called your trainer a nasty name or something on the way out.

I'm terribly disappointed. Like Rob, I was hoping you were hell-raising. Drat.

Not to worry, Rob. I regularly call my trainer nasty names. It's part of our ... er... chemistry. (Yeah, that's it!) He would have thrown me out months ago if it was for name-calling, I'm afraid! ;-)

Excuse me, I have to go adjust my halo now...

What a hilarious post! You're not gonna break in during the night to sneak in a few lifts are you?

A forced break is a forced vacation - enjoy it!

Yep, I thought the same thing as Rob. I thought maybe you were hitting on the cute guy who gave you that confidence boost a while back, and you scared him so bad with your new confidence that he got you kicked out! Enjoy your break!

My first thought was "Sarah Elaine? Sweet Sarah?" Then I read the rest of the post.

Enjoy your rest.

Hopefully the break will have you coming back STRONG and motivated.
