Tomorrow is a new day

The Calgary Flames lost. I watched the game. It was lousy.

My 11-year old white cat, Nimbus, who has a voracious and unstoppable appetite is -- for the first time in her life -- refusing to eat. She walks around howling, then sleeping, only punctuated by the occasional vomit.

My Dad hit a deer. He's OK, as is the car. The young deer got up and ran into the woods, so apparently, he's OK, too.

Oh yeah... and my cousin, Gary (brother to Brian, who died in 1995 from AIDS-related causes, and son to Donna, my aunt who remains in the hospital with a broken femur that refuses to heal -- both of whom I have blogged about in posts past) committed suicide this week by sticking a shotgun in his mouth and firing.

I just found out... (as the Flames were losing to the Ducks). The funeral is on Saturday. In Ontario. Neither my brother, nor I can get there for it.

I sure am glad tomorrow is another day... One that may well require a trip to the vet for kitty...

For now, it's definitely time to wrap up this day.

I am sorry for your collection of misfortunes and tragedies - hopefully things will look brighter tomorrow. Terribly sad to hear of the suicide.

S, this is definitely a "scream underwater" day for you. A dearly departed friend of mine (who also committed suicide--someday I will write about this remarkable soul--the world has truly suffered for not knowing him better) used to go swimming for therapy, not just physical therapy, but also mental, because, as he told me, he could dive to the bottom of the pool and scream like he was being broken, as loud as he wanted, and the water would absorb all his pain, silently. He inspired me to coin the phrase "Today is a scream underwater day." And, maybe I've done that every now and then, if for no other reason than to bring him back to life for a few seconds...

Hi Sarah,

Oh I'm so sorry, that is just so traggic--a suicide. I feel for your loss.

Not to put too strong a point on it, but I think kitty needs the vet now.

Hang in there!

Oh Sarah, what a sad time for you.

There's nothing to say except I'm so sorry about all of it and pray your cousin is at peace.

Hey there. So sorry to hear about your cousin. That's just terrible, but I hope he has found peace at last. I hate it when the universe does this - reminds us that we are not in control after all. If you need any help at all with Nimbus, or anything else, let me know. And we'll chat soon.

Ah, Sarah, I'm so sorry for your loss. You are right, that is a day that needs to end. I hope tomorrow is a bit better - hard with a death in the family. It's scary to think about the forces that drive one to suicide, and hard for those who loved that person to fathom. Chances are you will never completely understand it, but you will learn to live with the pain. Remember the good things about Gary and the good times that you shared. My thoughts are with you.

I had a childhood friend who took his life the same way during his teenage years. In later years I spoke at the church his family attended and remember the depth of their grief. You and your family are in my prayers.
