So, I've been feeding my news addiction today...
(Yes, I should be focussing on my paper... and I'm still on a high that it's the last week of classes!)
I've just finished the last of my students' oral exams this afternoon! Yaay! Poor kids... they find it nerve-wracking... I just find it painful to listen to, mostly... but they gotta do it!
Anyway, look I found in Canada's national newspaper, the Globe and Mail:
Brutal winter ahead, climatologist predicts
So... that would be .... more brutal than any normal Canadian winter?!
(And by the way, the question in the title of this post was a bit rhetorical. We Canucks generally know how to stay warm in the winter!)

I hear you like sharing teqila.
When I lived in the frozen north, it wasn't the cold that got to me (I had a nice parka and all the heat I wanted at home -- didn't even have to get a dog), but the weird orange winter sky. Someone gave me a full-spectrum lightbulb to counter the lack of sunlight, but it was the constant glow, that low yellow sky, day and night, that made me wonder how long the winter could last.
Do you have that?
TG - Tequila doesn't actually warm you up... it just keeps you from noticing the frostbite... I think!
Sissoula - No orange skies here that have caught my eye, but we do get some pretty amazing Chinook cloulds at times. I'll have to post on this with photos when we get a chinook... words don't do it justice!
SEE, I've got my longjohns on and I'm ready to face Old Man Winter today. Not only do I have a 2.5 km walk ahead of me, but I also have to walk across the river valley: a stretch of brdge about 1km long. And let me tell you, it gets cold up there! This probably isn't the best day for a walk, since my MAC tells me it's -27°C (-36°C with the windchill). But why should that stop us. I hate winter, just like every other sane, non skier (sp?)... but there's just no avoiding it. Good luck with your end of term. I finished my last paper + presentation yesterday. Now if only I could find the drive to work on my thesis *sigh*.
Well, there's a chinook on the way. I guess Calgary is exempt from whatever the rest of the country is going to get. I love it here ;)
Tights. Good British tights. That'll keep you warm. Too bad Marks and Sparks Canada went under. Now they know their tights. Probably because the Brits have yet to figure out how to effectively heat and insulate a house. (And I can say that in the full knowledge that I am a Brit so I am efectively slagging off my own kind.)
How did your hard-working, over-achieving student who just couldn't grasp conjugation end up doing?
Amber - still struggling... and still determined as ever. Will update after the final exam...
